What are cookies?
Cookies are small data or text files that are placed on your computer by websites and applications. Such cookies can have different purposes: there are technical cookies (for example to keep track of language settings), session cookies (temporary cookies that expire after one session), and tracking cookies (cookies that track and monitor your behaviour on the internet in order to offer a more optimal user experience).
The Belgian Electronic Communications Act of 13 June 2005 contains provisions regarding cookies and their use on websites. The law is a transposition of the European e-Privacy Directive, which means that the cookie legislation can be implemented differently in other European member states.
Academic Software is based in Belgium and therefore follows the Belgian legislation on cookies.
Purpose and usefulness of cookies
Academic Software wants every visitor to the platform and/or website to be fully informed about their rights regarding cookies under Belgian legislation, and about which cookies Academic Software uses.
By using the platform/website, the visitor agrees to the use of cookies. Cookies help Academic Software to optimise your visit to the platform/website, to remember technical choices (for example, a language choice) and to show you more relevant services and offers.
Our recommendation is that you enable technical settings for cookies when using the Academic Software platform/website. Types of cookies used by Academic Software
We distinguish the following types of cookies, depending on their purposes:
Essential / necessary cookies
These cookies are necessary for the platform/website to function and cannot be disabled in our systems. They are necessary for good communication and they make it easier to navigate the platform or website (e.g. return to a previous page).

Cookie management
To enable cookies, you can take the following steps:
For Microsoft Internet Explorer
In Internet Explorer, click on “Internet Options” in the “Tools” menu. On the “Privacy” tab, move the settings slider to “low” or “accept all cookies” (setting above “medium” disables cookies).
Click on “OK”.
For Mozilla Firefox
Click "Firefox" in the top left corner of your browser, then click "Options".
On the “Privacy” tab, make sure the “Tell websites I don't want to be tracked” is unchecked.
Click on “OK”.
For Google Chrome
Click on the three dots next to the browser bar at the top of your browser window and choose “Options”.
Find the "Privacy and security" section and click on "content settings".
Click on the “cookies” option.
Now select “Allow sites to save and read cookie data”.
For Safari
Choose "Preferences" from the task menu. (The task menu is located at the top right of the Safari window and looks like a gear. Or click "Safari" in the expanded task menu.)
Click on the “Privacy” tab. Find the section called "Cookies and other website data".
Indicate that you accept cookies.
Our recommendation is that you enable technical settings for cookies when using the Academic Software platform/website. Enabling cookies helps Academic Software provide a smooth visit to the platform/website. If you prefer not to use cookies, you are of course completely free to disable the cookies. This can be done in the following ways:
For Microsoft Internet Explorer
In Internet Explorer, select the Tools button and select “Internet Options”.
Select the “Privacy” tab and under “Settings” move the slider up to block all cookies. Click OK.
For Mozilla Firefox
Click on the menu button and choose “Preferences”.
Select the “Privacy & Security” panel and go to the “History” section.
Next to “Firefox will”, set to “Use custom settings for history”.
Set “Accept third-party cookies” to “Never”.
Close the “About: Preferences” page. Changes you have made are saved automatically.
For Google Chrome
Select "More Settings" in the browser toolbar.
At the bottom of the page, select the “Advanced” option.
Under “Privacy and security”, select “Content settings”.
Select “Cookies”.
Disable “Allow sites to save and read cookie data”.
For Safari
Choose "Preferences" from the task menu. (The task menu is located at the top right of the Safari window and looks like a gear. Or click "Safari" in the expanded task menu.)
Click on the “Privacy” tab. Find the section called "Cookies and other website data".
Indicate that you do not accept cookies.

Rights of visitors
Since cookies can constitute a processing of personal data, you as a data subject have the right to the lawful and secure processing of your personal data. As a data subject, you can exercise the following rights:
- Right to object: If there are serious and legitimate reasons, you can object to the processing of personal data.
- Right of access: Every data subject who proves his/her identity has a right of access to information about whether or not processing of his personal data exists, as well as the purposes of this processing, the categories of data to which these processing operations relate and the categories of recipients to whom the data is disclosed.
- Right to correction: Inaccurate or incomplete personal data can always be corrected or even deleted at the request of the data subject.
